The lawyers in the Banking and Finance Department have experience in preparing and advising on major banking documents and other financial and security instruments such as syndicated loans, bond issues, guarantees, letters of hypothecation, documentary credits, performance bonds and factoring for local as well as offshore clients.

The Firm also advises on all aspects of banking law, including regulations issued by Bank Negara, and other regional central banks, the law relating to negotiable instruments, in particular Letters of Credits, Bills of Exchange; all aspects of international share schemes; advising on the legal aspects of exchange control, moratorium, insulation of financing, remedies and the enforcement of remedies in international financing.

The Department is also experienced in most aspects of project (including bridging and end) financing, securities arrangements and regulations, conduct of banking business, securities industrial laws and regulations, stock exchange regulations and allied matters.

Conveyancing

The Conveyancing Department provides the whole range of services relating to immovable property, including drafting of and advising on conveyancing loan documentation, project development, offshore financing, leases, charges and other security documentation relating to land.  It also gives advice on real property gains tax, stamp duty, and regulatory compliance.

The firm has been involved in matters involving corporate finance, financial and corporate restructuring and a range of commercial contracts. Within this ambit the firm deals with company secretarial and other work and handles a range of companies from small private companies to large public listed concerns. If assists clients with incorporation of business and companies and other entities in Malaysia and the region.

The corporate lawyers of the firm have continuing involvement in a number of very large joint venture projects in the region, including Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, and have negotiated and successfully concluded such projects on behalf of clients. This has resulted in them acquiring practical and first-hand experience and knowledge of the complexities of regional statutory and regulatory compliance. These lawyers have assisted in structuring and negotiating proposals, schemes and setting up effective corporate structures.

The Corporate and Commercial Department also engages in the drafting of employment and service contracts and also advises on employment laws in Malaysia and the region.

The litigation lawyers in the firm also deal with probateletters of administration and family law matters involving estate duty, adoption, trusts, administration and distribution of estates, preparatioof wills, trust deeds and other related documents.

Litigation

The litigation lawyers of the firm are experienced in dealing with a broad spectrum of commercial and civil disputes in particular corporate, commercial and financial services litigation both in the courts and administrative bodies.

A growing area of practice within the Litigation Department is the area of corporate insolvency litigation. The firm also provides such basic services as debt collection, including credit card debt collection, dispute compromise and settlement.
