Educational Background:

V. Vishnu Kumar graduated with an LL.B (Hons) from the University of East Anglia and later earned his LL.M from the University of Malaya. He also obtained the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on September 7, 1990.

Experience:

With over 30 years of legal experience, Vishnu Kumar has built a distinguished career in litigation, specializing in defending insurance companies in road traffic law, motor insurance claims, and non-motor insurance cases. He has extensive experience representing clients in the courts at all levels across Peninsular Malaysia, from Magistrates Courts to the Federal Court.

His expertise spans a broad spectrum of general civil litigation, including probate and administration matters, defending drivers under the Road Transport Act 1987, and handling judicial reviews related to administrative action, planning law, and local government issues. Vishnu Kumar has also represented clients in cases involving company law, commercial disputes, banking law, and electricity supply services law and recovery litigation.

Between 2002 and 2010, Vishnu Kumar served as the Legal Manager for Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Puncak Niaga Holdings Berhad, a public listed company involved in water treatment and supply in Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putra Jaya. His corporate experience provided him with invaluable insights into corporate governance and legal management at a senior level.

Vishnu Kumar rejoined active legal practice in 2010 and became Head of Litigation at Syed Alwi, Ng & Co. in Kuala Lumpur in 2016. His portfolio of cases includes complex commercial litigation, company law disputes, and administrative law cases. His commitment to his clients is demonstrated by his sole appearances in cases right up to the Federal Court, ensuring high-level representation across a range of legal fields.

Career:

V. Vishnu Kumar joined Syed Alwi, Ng & Co. in 2016 and was appointed as a Partner in 2023. He currently leads the firm’s Litigation Department in its Kuala Lumpur office.
