Educational Background:

Latha Pillay graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the National University of Singapore in 1988. She was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1989 and to the Malaysian Bar in 1994.

Experience:

Latha has extensive experience advising foreign and local clients on property and real estate, Islamic Banking, and other banking-related matters. She has expertise in advising foreign corporations on investments in Malaysia, joint ventures, and other investment structures both locally and internationally. Latha is skilled in drafting and negotiating documents for project finance, property finance, corporate banking, retail banking, restructuring, housing development, manufacturing, and property transactions. She has actively engaged with prospective clients from countries such as Japan, China, India, and Indonesia, facilitating numerous transactions including land acquisitions and bulk purchases of commercial and residential units.

Additionally, Latha is involved in due diligence exercises for local and international companies, handling transactions like reverse take-overs, restructuring, and de-listing. Her approach focuses on innovative planning and practical solutions to complex issues. She also manages civil and commercial litigation, probate, and family disputes including divorce, child custody, and maintenance claims.

Career:

Latha began her career at Messrs Tan, Rajah & Cheah in Singapore in 1988. She later joined David Chong & Co, Singapore in 1993, before moving to Malaysia to practice with Messrs David Chong & Co., Johor Bahru. Since 1994, she has been managing the firm, which was renamed Syed Alwi, Ng & Co. in October 2004.
