About Khaliza Binti Khalid

Educational Background:

Khaliza Binti Khalid graduated with an LLB (Hons) from Brunel University of London, in 1994, and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Malaysian Bar in November 1996. She also holds an MBA from the University of Nottingham and has completed the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP).

Experience:

Khaliza has broad experience in civil, commercial and corporate law, litigation, conveyancing and real property transactions, construction law and company secretaryship. Her portfolio focuses on civil, commercial and corporate litigation and construction dispute resolution.
She began her legal career as a litigation lawyer after she was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1996 and she has practiced and led various litigation cases at both the trial and appellate levels including banking litigation involving loan/facility recovery, hire purchase, foreclosure and land enquiry, civil and commercial litigation involving law of contract, company law, land acquisition and injunctions matters, bankruptcy and winding up proceedings as well as receivership and insolvency. She also has experience in handling non contentious and contentious probate and administration of estates cases and family disputes including divorce proceedings and adoption. In 2006, she then moved in-house as corporate counsel with top and well-established property developers before returning to legal practice in 2022.

As an in-house corporate counsel, she has vast knowledge and experience in construction contract administration and she is adept at providing legal strategies and recommendations in project development and construction matters, land matters and project conveyancing. Her experience in the property and construction industry also includes advisory work and legal drafting as well as representing and negotiating on behalf of the group of companies in a wide range of litigation, judicial review, arbitration, adjudication and tribunal cases and in corporate and commercial contracts including construction contracts, consultancy and service agreements, joint venture agreements, sale and purchase agreements for land and building and project development of residential/commercial properties, acquisitions and disposals, tenancies and leases, settlement agreements and infrastructure cost sharing agreements.

She is a qualified adjudicator empanelled with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators (MIArb) and the Society of Construction Law Malaysia. She is also an Associate Member of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries And Administrators (MAICSA) and a Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional of The Chartered Governance Institute. She has attended the Harvard Leadership Program and she has also completed the Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (AQIF) by the Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM).
